About Sihawu Clinic:
During the Covid crisis in 2020, Meghann Horst began a clinic on-site at Canterbury Farms to assist their employees with their healthcare needs by screening, treating, and encouraging prevention of Covid. Working alongside Calsile Maziya, the pair worked to serve the CE employees for 18 months, caring not only for Covid issues, but the general healthcare needs of their entire workforce. In July of 2021, with the help of another organization (Kudvumisa), Meghann and her team opened a clinic site in Mbutfu to care, not just for the needs of farm employees, but for anyone in the community.
In 2022, Meghann and Nelson met with the local chiefs to determine what areas in Southern Lubombo were lacking access to healthcare. It was from that meeting they identified 7 communities that had little to no medical care available in their communities. Starting later that year, the team started making monthly visits to each of those locations, in addition to running the Mbutfu and Canterbury clinic sites. On average, the Sihawu Clinic team has cared for 8000 patients per year between their outreach, community clinic, and business site.
They have been blessed by partnerships with local businesses - Canterbury Farms, TransShip, and SD Citrus - whose investment has assisted their endeavors to reach the needs of the community. Their partnership with Mercy Air has assisted in serving their outreach sites, as well as providing occasional access to dental care.
